Instructor – Law of Persons (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Faculty of Law at McGill University seeks an experienced instructor to teach the course "Law of Persons" in the Fall 2026 term. This role involves delivering lectures on the existence and attributes of physical and legal persons under Quebec civil law.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver weekly lectures on Wednesdays from 17:35 to 20:25 in Chancellor Day Hall.
• Prepare and update course materials, including syllabi, reading lists, and case studies.
• Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and class participation.
• Provide academic guidance and feedback to undergraduate law students.
• Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development and departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• At minimum, a first degree in law (LL.B. or equivalent).
• Several years of significant professional practice or experience in the relevant legal field.
• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate law students in a bilingual (English/French) environment.
• Strong understanding of Quebec civil law, legal personality, and related constitutional rights.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the Civil Law tradition, especially Quebec’s legal framework.
• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly in both English and French.
• Experience designing and delivering university‑level law courses.
