Information Systems Specialist – Quantum Infrastructure

About the role

Q-Block Computing is seeking an Information Systems Specialist to join its Ottawa team, working on cutting‑edge quantum technologies in sensing, communication and computation. The role focuses on designing, developing and maintaining the distributed IT infrastructure that connects quantum control hardware across embedded compute nodes and Ethernet networks.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and implement embedded Linux system images for ARM‑based compute modules using Yocto or Buildroot, including BSP customization and kernel configuration.
• Plan and architect multi‑tier LAN environments with isolated address spaces, configuring DNS, DHCP and NFS services.
• Configure managed Ethernet switches, VLANs and QoS policies to ensure low‑latency delivery of control payloads.
• Develop and maintain a web‑based management application (React or Vue frontend with Python FastAPI/Flask or Node.js backend) for device monitoring and command distribution.
• Create automation frameworks in Python, Bash and Ansible for provisioning, configuration and deployment workflows.
• Define and execute quality‑assurance tests to validate network throughput, latency and reliability.
• Document network topologies, IP schemes, switch configurations and build procedures.
• Collaborate with hardware and quantum systems teams and share knowledge within the group.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
• At least 3 years of professional experience covering two of the following areas: embedded Linux development, network infrastructure design, or full‑stack web application development.

Required skills

• Embedded Linux development (Yocto, Buildroot, ARM SoMs, kernel configuration, systemd).
• Shell scripting and automation (Python, Bash, Ansible).
• Network architecture (TCP/UDP, VLAN design, DHCP/DNS services, managed switch configuration, QoS).
• Full‑stack web development (React or Vue, Flask/FastAPI or Node.js).
• Experience with infrastructure platforms such as Proxmox or OpenStack (asset).
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana or Prometheus (asset).
