Infectious Diseases Physician (CAF)

About the role

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) is seeking an experienced Infectious Diseases Physician to provide specialist consultation and direct patient care to CAF members across Canada and on deployments. This role combines clinical practice with leadership, mentorship, and public health responsibilities within military health services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized infectious diseases consultation and direct patient care for CAF personnel in clinics, hospitals, and deployed settings.
• Advise healthcare teams on prevention, diagnosis, and management of infectious diseases in domestic and operational environments.
• Support outbreak investigations, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and force health protection initiatives.
• Contribute expertise during domestic operations, international deployments, humanitarian missions, and public health responses.
• Educate, mentor, and advise multidisciplinary teams on emerging pathogens, travel medicine, and infection control practices.
• Maintain clinical expertise through practice in civilian healthcare institutions, academic centres, or public health organisations.
• Assist in developing healthcare policies, operational health directives, and infectious disease strategies for the CAF.

Required profile

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Licensure (or eligibility) to practice medicine in Canada.
• Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine.
• Royal College subspecialty certification in Infectious Diseases or equivalent fellowship training.
• Experience diagnosing and managing complex infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Demonstrated expertise in infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and outbreak management.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams; teaching or mentoring experience is an asset.
• Experience in public health, travel medicine, tropical medicine, global health, humanitarian operations, or outbreak response is considered an asset.
