Infection Prevention and Control Nurse – CFB Esquimalt

About the role

Calian is seeking an Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Nurse to join its clinical team at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in Victoria, BC. The role supports the health and safety of military personnel by delivering IPAC programs, conducting surveillance, and guiding clinical teams on infection prevention.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver CFHS IPAC programs tailored to local needs and act as a backup immunizer after certification.
• Identify infectious disease processes and support teams in differentiating colonisation, infection, contamination, and antimicrobial use.
• Lead local surveillance activities, conduct risk assessments, epidemiologic investigations and flag communicable diseases.
• Collect, track and analyse infection data, including incidence, prevalence and infection rates.
• Participate in outbreak investigations and implement control measures.
• Provide annual IPAC training on routine practices, PPE use, hand hygiene and biomedical waste management.

Required profile

• Nursing background with experience in infection prevention and control.
• Ability to work within Canadian Forces Health Services Centres and collaborate with base/wing units and community partners.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection and outbreak investigation.

Required skills

• Infection surveillance and epidemiologic investigation.
• Data collection and analysis of infection metrics.
• Immunisation certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Knowledge of PPE use, hand hygiene protocols and biomedical waste management.
