Housing Policy Specialist

About the role

The Housing Policy Specialist will support the UN‑Habitat Canada Office in Montreal by managing data, preparing evidence‑based inputs on housing policies, and contributing to applied research and knowledge‑management activities. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the consultant will help strengthen the office’s housing programme and facilitate the exchange of Canadian expertise on sustainable and inclusive urban development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide support across all stages of the data‑management process for housing‑policy research.
• Prepare evidence‑based analyses of international and domestic housing policies.
• Consolidate research outputs and knowledge products that enhance the office’s housing programme.
• Assist the Open‑Ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All (OEWG‑H) by supplying relevant research and policy inputs.
• Collaborate with UN‑Habitat’s Land, Housing and Shelter Section in Nairobi to align Canadian contributions with global initiatives.

Required profile

• Motivated professional with experience in housing policy, urban development, or related research.
• Mid‑level expertise, able to work under the guidance of the Head of Office and report to the Programme Management Officer.
• Strong analytical abilities and familiarity with evidence‑based policy work.
