Hospital Pharmacy Assistant (Selkirk)

About the role

This is a support position within the pharmacy department of the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. The incumbent will assist the centre’s pharmacists with technical and clerical pharmacy functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and clerical assistance to pharmacists, including medication preparation and dispensing.
• Operate pharmacy computer programs and maintain accurate medication records.
• Utilise automated dispensing cabinets and manage distribution processes.
• Deliver medication throughout the centre and ensure confidentiality of patient information.
• Support inventory management and perform routine pharmacy tasks.

Required profile

• Complete Grade 12 education (Manitoba standards) and graduation from a recognized pharmacy assistant program.
• One‑year experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical calculations.
• Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pharmacy computer programs.
• Knowledge of automated dispensing cabinet distribution processes.
• Familiarity with information systems technology and pharmacy software.
• Understanding of current pharmacy computer systems.
• Competence in pharmaceutical calculations.
