Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic

About the role

All West Demolition is seeking an experienced Heavy‑Duty Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair a fleet of demolition trucks and attachments in Edmonton. The role involves hands‑on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and mentoring apprentices in a demanding outdoor environment.

Key responsibilities

• Instruct apprentices and ensure safe work practices.
• Troubleshoot, inspect and diagnose faults using computerized testing equipment.
• Order parts, maintain inventory and keep detailed maintenance reports.
• Adjust, repair or replace defective components and test equipment to meet manufacturer specifications.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and repair of heavy trucks, hydraulic and cable‑operated attachments, compressors, pumps and generators.

Required profile

• Other trades certificate or diploma, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience repairing heavy‑duty diesel equipment.
• Valid Class 3 or D driver’s licence and WHMIS certification.
• Fall Arrest Protection and First Aid certifications.
• Physically able to lift up to 23 kg, work in dusty, noisy outdoor conditions and stand for long periods.

Required skills

• Diesel engine repair (fuel injection, exhaust, cooling, AC, lubrication, engine control).
• Major engine overhaul and installation/alignment.
• Hydraulic‑operated and cable‑operated attachment maintenance.
• Compressors, pumps, telescopic ladder and electric generator service.
• Industrial lift‑truck and forklift repair.
• Mechanical transmissions, drive trains, hydraulic transmissions and power take‑offs.
• Tracked vehicle suspension, steering and brake systems.
