Health and Safety Officer (Shifts)

About the role

The Health and Safety Officer (Shifts) will ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and company policies on a large‑scale construction site. Working closely with project managers, supervisors and subcontractors, you will promote a strong safety culture and help minimise hazards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with local, provincial and federal safety legislation (OHSA, WSIB, etc.) and submit required regulatory reports.
• Develop, implement and maintain site‑specific Health and Safety Plans, conduct Job Hazard Analyses and risk assessments.
• Perform daily safety inspections, identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
• Lead investigations of accidents, near‑misses and unsafe events; produce incident reports and root‑cause analyses.
• Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks and ongoing training on emergency procedures and hazard recognition.
• Create and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate fire, evacuation and other drills.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, training and compliance audits; prepare weekly and monthly safety performance reports.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of health and safety experience, including at least 1 year on large‑scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, hazards and relevant regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to supervise on‑site activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Experience using safety management software.
