Health and Safety Coordinator

About the role
Our client, a growing chemical manufacturer operating two Etobicoke facilities, seeks a proactive Health and Safety Coordinator. The role is hands‑on, responsible for leading H&S programs at plant level, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a strong safety culture on the shop floor.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks and employee H&S training across both sites.
- Provide day‑to‑day H&S guidance to supervisors and frontline staff.
- Drive safety culture through active floor presence, employee engagement and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario OHSA and all applicable occupational health and safety legislation.
- Develop, implement and maintain Safe Operating Procedures, policies and work instructions.
- Administer and continuously improve the company’s H&S management system.
- Manage third‑party vendors such as external trainers, industrial‑hygiene providers and confined‑space program vendors.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections, internal audits and lead incident investigations, preparing root‑cause analysis reports and corrective action plans.
- Track, analyse and report on safety metrics, trends and performance indicators.
- Serve as the primary on‑site resource for Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) compliance and support related regulatory reporting.
Required profile
- Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of H&S experience in chemical or industrial manufacturing.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and related regulations.
- Experience developing SOPs and delivering H&S training to frontline employees.
- Proven ability to conduct internal audits, workplace inspections and incident investigations.
- Working knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety documentation management systems.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, SMETA or ILO audit standards is an asset.
