Gift Shop Assistant – Legislative Assembly

About the role

The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is seeking a customer‑focused Gift Shop Assistant to support daily operations of the Assembly’s gift shop and the MLA Educational Resources program. Reporting to the Gift Shop Coordinator, the role involves sales, merchandising, inventory control and occasional weekend coverage during summer months.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with purchasing, sales transactions and customer service using the point‑of‑sale system.
• Maintain visual merchandising standards and ensure store presentation aligns with Assembly branding.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct stock counts and process stock replenishment.
• Support the MLA Educational Resources program and assume full shop responsibility in the Coordinator’s absence.

Required profile

• Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent) with at least one year of retail and customer‑service experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of POS transactions, inventory management, visual merchandising and store standards.
• Preference for post‑secondary education in business, retail management, hospitality, marketing or related fields and three or more years of retail experience.
