General Surgeon – Canadian Armed Forces

About the role

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) seeks qualified General Surgeons to provide trauma and general surgical care to CAF members both in Canada and on international deployments. You will work alongside civilian hospitals, lead surgical teams, and contribute to health policy development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide surgical consultation for CAF members in Canada and overseas.
• Lead a surgical or emergent care team caring for injured and ill patients in both domestic and deployed settings.
• Educate and advise multidisciplinary teams on trauma and general surgery care.
• Maintain a high level of surgical skills through practice in civilian tertiary‑care hospitals.
• Contribute to the development and application of health‑care policies within the CAF.

Required profile

• Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
• Unrestricted licence to practise General Surgery in a Canadian province or territory.
• Willingness to maintain clinical readiness and participate in annual military skills training and field exercises.
• Ability to deploy to domestic and international operations as needed.
