Front End Clerk – Sales/Service (Tier II)

About the role

Join Safeway’s front‑end team in Winnipeg and keep the checkout running smoothly. You will scan items, handle payments, and provide friendly, efficient service to customers in a fast‑paced retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Enter or scan items selected by customers.
• Verify prices and cancel transactions according to store standards.
• Handle cash, debit cards, cheques and other payment methods, and make deposits as required.
• Balance the cash register at the end of each shift.
• Maintain productivity targets such as sales per hour and entries per minute.
• Provide courteous customer service, even during busy periods.
• Bag items following established procedures.
• Keep work areas and uniform clean and well‑maintained.
• Use equipment safely and comply with food safety and hygiene standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma (preferred).
• At least six months experience as a cashier.
• Customer‑service oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
• Available to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 kg.

Required skills

• Proficiency in operating a cash register/POS system.
