Food Process Engineer – Toronto

About the role

LAPORTE is looking for an experienced Food Process Engineer to join its Toronto office. You will lead the design and execution of process engineering projects for food, beverage, and biotech clients across North America, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in client needs assessment and project definition.
• Lead all project phases, maintaining scope, schedule, and budget.
• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Review engineering deliverables, manage project risks, and ensure high‑quality standards.
• Write technical reports and analyses to support design submissions.
• Review shop drawings, obtain supplier proposals, and coordinate with contractors.
• Visit and survey project sites as required.
• Manage deliverables and project execution (≈50% of workload) and conduct process, utilities, and mechanical designs (≈50%).
• Chair multidisciplinary team meetings and support business development activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Biochemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Provincial Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility.
• 6–10 years of progressive experience in process design for food, beverage, or biotech industries.
• Strong knowledge of local codes and industry standards.

Required skills

• Process design for fluid and bulk material handling.
• Creation of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), heat and material balances, and P&IDs.
• Design of sanitary process systems, including piping, vessels, and CIP systems.
• Experience with industry codes and standards compliance.
