Flight Test Instrumentation Specialist

About the role

The Flight Test Instrumentation Specialist will define instrumentation requirements, design signal‑conditioning and data‑acquisition solutions, and ensure compliance with airworthiness standards throughout flight‑test campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Define instrumentation requirements in collaboration with test engineers and project managers.
• Design signal‑conditioning, data‑acquisition, and sensor‑integration solutions and prepare wiring diagrams, sensor lists, and layouts.
• Supervise or perform installation of sensors and data‑acquisition systems, calibrate sensors, and verify system accuracy before flight.
• Operate ground stations, monitor real‑time data, and ensure accurate logging and storage during flight and ground tests.
• Perform pre‑flight and post‑flight checks, diagnose and resolve instrumentation issues, and maintain detailed records of configurations and calibrations.
• Support regulatory compliance with FAA, EASA, or Transport Canada guidelines and participate in hazard analysis and flight‑test readiness reviews.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in electrical engineering, avionics, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years experience with aircraft systems, flight‑test environments, and telemetry.
• Four years of on‑the‑job or company apprenticeship training.
• Ability to work safely in flight‑line and hangar environments and travel as required.

Required skills

• Signal‑conditioning design.
• Data‑acquisition system design (e.g., IADS).
• Sensor integration and wiring‑diagram preparation.
• Calibration of environmental sensors, strain gauges, thermocouples, and pressure transducers.
• Ground‑station operation and real‑time data monitoring.
