Fleet Engineering & Asset Management Manager

About the role

The Manager, Fleet Engineering leads the Fleet Engineering Unit within Durham Region Transit, overseeing the performance, reliability and sustainability of the agency’s vehicle fleet, parts, service equipment, fueling and charging systems, consumables and maintenance programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans, policies and programmes that support cost‑effective, reliable fleet operations.
• Set and maintain standards for all fleet assets, including vehicles, parts, service equipment, fueling and electric‑charging infrastructure.
• Collaborate with divisional leadership to align initiatives, resolve operational issues and ensure business continuity, especially during emergencies.
• Lead change‑management efforts and drive continuous improvement across maintenance and asset‑management processes.
• Provide technical guidance and support to ensure fleet assets meet operational demands and customer expectations.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences (Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Mechatronics or related) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum eight years of progressive experience in fleet or vehicle engineering, with at least five years in a leadership role.
• Proven ability to think strategically, develop teams and manage change in a unionised environment.
