Fire Protection & Sprinkler Designer

About the role

HIDI is seeking a Fire Protection & Sprinkler Designer to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of fire protection systems for a variety of building projects. You will work from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with codes and supporting safe, high‑performance environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design fire protection, sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems and perform hydraulic calculations using HYDRACALC.
• Prepare detailed drawings, system layouts, and equipment room designs while ensuring compliance with OBC and NFPA standards.
• Coordinate designs with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and structural teams and attend coordination meetings.
• Monitor project progress, review drawings for quality, and produce technical reports, specifications, and change notices.
• Conduct site reviews, attend construction meetings, troubleshoot installations, and support field execution.
• Build client relationships, contribute to business development, and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• Engineering Technology Diploma or Mechanical Engineering degree.
• Strong experience in fire protection and sprinkler system design, including standpipe and fire pump systems.
• Proficiency with HYDRACALC and AutoCAD (Revit experience is an asset).
• In‑depth knowledge of NFPA (13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20) and Ontario Building Code requirements.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and managing multiple project deadlines.
