Fire and Life Safety Inspector – DCC/CDC Facility Maintenance

About the role

The Fire and Life Safety Inspector supports DCC/DND facilities across the GTA and Ontario, ensuring compliance with the National Fire Code, NFPA standards and DND directives. Reporting to the Fire and Life Safety Manager, the role conducts inspections, prepares documentation, delivers training and coordinates fire safety activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct fire prevention inspections of extinguishers, suppression systems, detection equipment, life‑safety hardware and means of egress.
• Prepare and update fire safety plans, inspection reports, deficiency records and required DND templates (CF‑80, CF‑81, etc.).
• Deliver fire drills and training for fire wardens, portable extinguishers and life‑safety procedures, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Review, monitor and issue hot‑work permits for contractors in accordance with FMD 4004 and the National Fire Code.
• Support fire‑protection system impairments, emergency incident response, construction site inspections and fire‑investigation coordination.
• Compile monthly reports of inspections, deficiencies, corrective actions and forecasted work using DND/DCC templates.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in Fire Protection Technology, Building Construction, Engineering or related field.
• 2–3 years of fire‑safety, building or property‑maintenance inspection experience.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian fire codes, NFPA standards, ULC, CSA and DND fire directives.
• Valid G‑class driver’s licence and ability to travel throughout Ontario.
• Ability to obtain and maintain reliability and secret security clearances.

Required skills

• NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level 1 certification.
• NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator I certification.
• Proficiency in conducting fire inspections and preparing compliance documentation.
• Experience reviewing and issuing hot‑work permits.
