Financial & Operations Examiner – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) is seeking a Financial & Operations Examiner on a 12‑month contract to support its mission of safeguarding investors and maintaining the integrity of Canada’s capital markets. You will work independently to verify the accuracy and completeness of regulatory reporting submitted by member firms.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex field examinations of assigned member firms, including risk evaluation and customization of examination procedures.
• Conduct preliminary research, gather information, and review relevant policies, prior reports, and working papers.
• Interview staff, develop documentation of workflows, and assess internal control objectives.
• Review financial and management procedures to evaluate adequacy of internal controls and ensure compliance with CIRO rules and policies.
• Prepare and present findings, highlighting deviations, deficiencies, and non‑compliance with IFRS and internal control standards.

Required profile

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
• 2‑3 years of experience in financial‑sector audit practice at a national accounting firm, enterprise risk‑management consulting, or a large financial institution.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
• Completion of the Canadian Securities Course is an asset.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Canadian Auditing Standards.
• Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Enterprise Risk Management practices.
• Strong audit and examination techniques, including interview, documentation, and test‑plan development.
