Field Service Technician – Surface Drills & Heavy Duty Mechanic

About the role

Sandvik Mining is looking for a licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic to join its Field Service team in Sault Ste. Marie. You will provide on‑site support for surface drilling equipment, ensuring reliable operation and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect surface mining equipment, diagnose faults and determine corrective actions.
• Adjust, repair or replace defective mechanical and electrical components according to work orders.
• Test repaired equipment to verify proper performance before returning it to service.
• Commission new equipment at customer sites and deliver training to operators.
• Document time records, technical reports, failure analyses and parts lists accurately.
• Participate in continuous‑improvement initiatives and stay current with industry developments.
• Follow all Environmental, Health and Safety policies, conduct risk assessments and report unsafe conditions.

Required profile

• Relevant trade certification (Red Seal certification is an asset).
• At least three years of experience working on mining or heavy‑duty equipment.
• Familiarity with surface drill machinery and its mechanical/electrical systems.
• Ability to work independently in a drive‑in/drive‑out schedule.

• Mechanical troubleshooting of mining equipment.

• Equipment commissioning and operator training.
• Repair and maintenance of heavy‑duty mechanical components.
• Proficient use of hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
