About the role

The Pelee Island Bird Observatory (PIBO) is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization through a pivotal growth phase. This senior leadership position will guide the transition from a volunteer‑driven model to a professionally managed conservation hub, overseeing the new Bird Centre, research programs, and public education initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Implement Board‑approved strategic priorities, including the launch of the Bird Centre and the long‑term science plan.
• Translate multi‑year strategy into annual work plans, budgets, and performance metrics.
• Monitor progress, report risks and outcomes to the Board, and adjust resources as needed.
• Lead a small, evolving team, building capacity and fostering a collaborative culture.
• Develop and execute fundraising strategies tied to the Bird Centre and broader organizational goals.
• Engage diverse stakeholders, including donors, researchers, volunteers, and community partners.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a non‑profit or conservation organization.
• Track record of strategic planning, organizational development, and successful fundraising.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and drive results with limited resources.
• Strong communication skills and capacity to build trust across varied audiences.
