Executive Director – Adult Learning

About the role

The Edmonton Community Adult Learning Association (ECALA) is seeking a dynamic Executive Director to serve as the chief executive officer and primary spokesperson for adult foundational learning across Edmonton and Alberta. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the leader will guide the organization’s strategic direction, ensure financial sustainability, and amplify community impact for over $2.5 million in public and community investments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership aligned with ECALA’s mission and Board‑approved strategic plan.
• Oversee financial stewardship, including budgeting, grant administration, and reporting for annual investments exceeding $2.5 million.
• Develop and maintain relationships with government ministries, Indigenous partners, educational institutions, employers, and funders.
• Advocate for adult literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, English language learning, employability and lifelong learning initiatives.
• Lead organizational operations, governance support, and performance measurement to demonstrate measurable outcomes.
• Represent ECALA in public forums, policy discussions, and community partnerships.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in the nonprofit, education or community‑development sector.
• Demonstrated success in financial management, grant administration and fundraising.
• Strong track record of government relations and policy advocacy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
• Commitment to advancing adult foundational learning and equity.
