Evening Service Worker – Custodial Services

About the role

UBC is seeking an Evening Service Worker to join its Custodial Services team on the Point Grey campus. You will provide comprehensive cleaning and minor maintenance for academic and office spaces during the 3 pm‑11 pm shift.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, polish, shampoo, disinfect and scrub floors, walls, fixtures, furniture and appliances.
• Operate light‑ and heavy‑duty hand or power‑driven cleaning equipment safely.
• Maintain adequate cleaning supplies and equipment; request replenishment as needed.
• Clean interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, shades and Venetian blinds.
• Collect and dispose of garbage and waste, empty receptacles, and manage recycling.
• Sweep sidewalks, clear snow when required, and perform spot‑cleaning of spills.
• Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels and writing paper.
• Report maintenance issues, fixture failures or signs of abuse to the supervisory team.

Required profile

• Available to work the 3 pm‑11 pm evening shift.
• Reports to the Director, Custodial Services, Custodial Manager or Assistant Supervisor.
• Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
• Physically able to lift, carry and maneuver cleaning equipment.
• Union membership (CUPE 116) preferred.

Required skills

• Operation of hand‑powered and electric cleaning equipment.
• Basic building maintenance tasks (e.g., minor repairs, fixture checks).
• Safe handling and application of cleaning chemicals.
