Evening Service Worker – Custodial Services

About the role

The Evening Service Worker provides essential custodial care for the University of British Columbia's Point Grey campus during the 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. shift. You will ensure that classrooms, labs, offices and common areas are clean, safe and ready for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, polish, shampoo and disinfect floors, walls, fixtures and furniture.
• Operate light‑ and heavy‑duty hand or power‑driven cleaning equipment as required.
• Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning chemicals, soap, paper products and report any shortages.
• Clean interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, shades and Venetian blinds.
• Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper and paper towels in designated areas.
• Sweep sidewalks, clear snow when needed, and keep exterior pathways tidy.
• Collect and dispose of garbage and waste, empty receptacles and transport waste to collection points.
• Report maintenance issues, fixture failures or safety concerns to the supervisory team.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team during evening hours.
• Physical capability to perform cleaning tasks, lift equipment and stand for extended periods.
• Reliability, punctuality and adherence to safety procedures.
• Basic literacy to complete work orders and incident reports.

Required skills

• Operation of hand and power‑driven cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper usage and safety protocols.
