ESL Instructor – Health Care Assistant Program

About the role

Discovery Community College is seeking a dedicated ESL Instructor to join its onsite Health Care Assistant (HCA) program at the Langford campus. You will teach English to future HCAs, helping them succeed in laboratory and clinical training and ultimately become qualified health care assistants.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver ESL instruction aligned with Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) levels 5 and above.
• Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessments tailored to HCA students.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing feedback and support.
• Collaborate with HCA faculty to integrate language training with laboratory and clinical components.
• Maintain a supportive, inclusive classroom environment.

Required profile

• TESL Canada Professional Standard Two certification.
• Experience teaching CLB levels 5+ in a post‑secondary setting.
• University degree (BA) plus at least 100 hours of ESL methodology and theory.
• Strong knowledge of Health Care Assistant content and curriculum.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required skills

• TESL Canada Professional Standard Two certification.
• Familiarity with Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) levels 5 and above.
• Understanding of HCA program requirements.
