Engineering Technician – Field Services

About the role

The Engineering Technician – Field Services supports the Development Engineer by ensuring municipal infrastructure projects and private developments meet approved plans, subdivision agreements, municipal standards, and relevant legislation. Acting as the Town’s on‑site representative, the technician provides field‑level oversight for roads, watermains, sewers, sidewalks, grading, and related services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections for private developments and subdivisions to verify compliance with engineering drawings, site plans, grading and servicing plans, and municipal standards.
• Monitor development agreement conditions from pre‑construction through completion, ensuring developers and contractors satisfy all municipal requirements.
• Identify, document, and report deficiencies or deviations to the Development Engineer.
• Witness and document quality‑assurance testing such as watermain pressure/chlorination, CCTV, and compaction testing.
• Monitor erosion and sediment control measures and ensure environmental compliance.
• Attend pre‑construction, progress, and final assumption meetings as the Town’s representative.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑construction condition assessments of adjacent Town infrastructure.
• Review and verify developer‑submitted as‑built drawings for accuracy.
• Maintain organized inspection records, including site photos, logs, and testing documentation.
• Provide on‑site technical guidance to contractors and developers, escalating issues as needed.
