Engineering Manager, Risk

About the role

Relay is a digital banking platform helping self‑made business owners manage cash flow. We are entering a new growth phase and are hiring an Engineering Manager, Risk to shape our next stage of scale. You will make high‑impact, strategic decisions for a product used by thousands of small businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, execution, and delivery of risk‑critical engineering initiatives, ensuring high quality, reliability, and safety.
• Maintain effective engineering processes and rituals, including sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design reviews.
• Partner with senior leadership to define and execute technical strategy for risk, fraud, and trust systems.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and other partners to turn ambiguous challenges into scalable solutions.
• Build and grow a high‑performing engineering team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
• Foster a collaborative, feedback‑driven culture that supports continuous learning and mentorship.

Required profile

• 5+ years of full‑stack software development experience, preferably in a high‑growth B2B SaaS or fintech environment.
• 1‑3 years of people‑management experience leading engineering teams.
• Proven track record of shipping high‑quality products and owning internal tools or platforms.
• Strong communication skills, calm under ambiguity, and a customer‑centric mindset.
• Ability to make pragmatic decisions while balancing scope, technical debt, and timelines.
• Demonstrated engineering judgment in high‑stakes scenarios.
• Enjoys cross‑functional collaboration and driving impactful initiatives.
