Engineering Manager – Forward Deployed Infrastructure (North America)

About the role

Cohere is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) Infrastructure team across North America. This remote‑first role blends hands‑on technical work with people leadership, ensuring successful deployment of Cohere’s AI platform in private‑cloud and on‑premises environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a team of Forward Deployed Engineers.
• Drive end‑to‑end deployment of the North platform in private‑cloud and on‑premises settings.
• Own customer success from technical implementation through delivery.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Sales to shape enterprise AI delivery.
• Guide the team on cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and enterprise‑grade deployments.
• Optimize performance for OpenSearch, databases and other K8s services.
• Define scaling guidelines for GPU and CPU compute resources.
• Build scalable processes and technology to support rapid growth.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated leadership.
• Hands‑on experience deploying enterprise software at scale.
• Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, Helm and CI/CD pipelines.
• High agency and a do‑er mentality – you solve problems without waiting for permission.
• Experience managing engineers in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
