Engineer-in-Training – Forensic Engineering (Vancouver)

About the role

J.S. Held is seeking a graduate Engineer‑in‑Training to join its Forensic Architecture & Engineering team. The role supports building projects across British Columbia and Canada, providing hands‑on experience in fire and life‑safety engineering while working in a collaborative, high‑energy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define, analyze, and solve engineering problems related to building safety.
• Conduct research and technical analyses that feed into detailed reports.
• Prepare reports and proposals based on on‑site field assessments.
• Travel extensively throughout BC and Canada to visit construction sites.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, government authorities, developers, and contractors.
• Receive extensive training in building codes and fire‑engineering principles.
• Develop solutions for fire and life‑safety challenges in buildings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Fire‑Protection Engineering.
• Strong background in fire dynamics, fluid mechanics, building materials, pedestrian‑flow theory, finite‑element analysis, or structural design.
• Relevant co‑op, internship, or industry experience solving engineering problems.
• Experience conducting research and writing technical reports or proposals.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
• Willingness to commute to the Vancouver office on a hybrid schedule and travel across Canada.
