Emergency Medicine Physician – Part‑time/Full‑time

About the role

The Hospital is seeking qualified Emergency Medicine Physicians for part‑time and full‑time positions. The role includes covering a small number of shifts at the regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo while being based in Port Alberni.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 24‑hour emergency care to a diverse patient population.
• Collaborate with clinical specialists across anesthesiology, surgery, psychiatry, obstetrics, internal medicine, pediatrics and radiology.
• Interpret medical imaging, including CT scans, and utilize the PACS system.
• Participate in academic activities through affiliation with UBC postgraduate and Island Medical School undergraduate programs.
• Maintain documentation and adhere to hospital protocols and quality standards.

Required profile

• Board‑eligible or board‑certified Emergency Medicine physician.
• CPSBC USA‑certified registration accepted.
• Willingness to work in a rural‑community setting.
• Ability to start as soon as possible.

Required skills

• Emergency medicine clinical expertise.
• Acute and critical care management.
• CT imaging interpretation.
• Use of hospital information and PACS systems.

What we offer

• Fee‑for‑service compensation model.
• Retention premium of 7.98% and a flat retention fee of $9,186.
• Relocation funding up to $15,000 and recruitment incentive up to $10,000.
• CME allowance: $2,200 per year (years 3‑4) and $4,400 after four years.
• Potential additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement.
