Emergency Medicine Physician – Part/Full‑Time in Port Alberni

About the role

The Hospital is seeking part‑time and full‑time Emergency Medicine Physicians to join a modern 52‑bed acute‑care facility with a 3‑bed ICU and a 24‑hour emergency department. The position is based in Port Alberni, British Columbia, with the option to cover a limited number of shifts at the regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo. Academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia postgraduate and undergraduate programs is available.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency medical care in a high‑volume, 24‑hour ER.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical specialists including anesthesiology, surgery, psychiatry, obstetrics, internal medicine, pediatrics and radiology.
• Participate in teaching activities linked to UBC’s postgraduate and Island Medical School programs.
• Cover occasional shifts at the Nanaimo regional Emergency Department as needed.

Required profile

• Board‑certified Emergency Medicine physician.
• CPSBC USA‑registered qualification acceptable.
• Willingness to work part‑time or full‑time in a community hospital setting.
• Readiness to relocate to Port Alberni and integrate into the local community.

• Retention premium of 7.98% plus a flat fee of $9,186.
• Relocation funding up to $15,000 and recruitment incentive up to $10,000.
• CME funding: $2,200 per year (years 3‑4) and $4,400 per year after four years.
