Electrical Engineer – Standards (Underground & Overhead)

About the role

Toronto Hydro is seeking up to five Electrical Engineers to develop and maintain standards for its underground and overhead distribution systems. The role supports the reliability, safety, and cost‑effectiveness of the utility’s power network.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare material and technical specifications and standards for distribution equipment.
• Review supplier, contractor and consultant proposals for technical merit and compliance.
• Evaluate new technologies, compare alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions.
• Approve equipment and materials based on test reports, drawings, and quality records.
• Create and update standard practice and design documents.
• Provide technical support, project management, and process‑efficiency improvements.
• Represent Toronto Hydro in external meetings and committees.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in utilities or manufacturing.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in Ontario.
• Class “G” driver’s licence strongly preferred.

Required skills

• Design and specification development of electrical distribution equipment.
• Development and application of utility standards for underground and overhead systems.
• Grid automation and SCADA/DMS systems.
