Early Childhood Educator

About the role

Under the direction of the Children & Family Learning Center Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator provides daily care for registered children and designs age‑appropriate programs that support cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. All duties follow the Child Care and Early Years Act and the centre’s philosophy.

Key responsibilities

• Promote the philosophy and mandate of the Biigtigong Children and Family Learning Center.
• Maintain communication with community organisations, parents, elders and band members.
• Plan and deliver a balanced schedule of indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, individual/group activities.
• Prepare crafts, circles, and other learning experiences.
• Encourage positive social interactions such as sharing, cooperation and problem‑solving.
• Design curriculum in line with centre guidelines and incorporate Nishnaabeg tradition, language and culture.
• Participate in professional development workshops and seminars.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• Secondary School Graduate Diploma (Grade 12).
• Post‑secondary Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
• Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators.
• Clear criminal reference check upon hire.
• Experience working with First Nation children and families.

Required skills

• Current First Aid certification.
• Current CPR certification.
