Dispatch, Screening and Systems Navigator (Casual)

About the role

The Systems, Screening and Dispatch Navigator is the first point of contact for the CRCL mobile crisis team, handling phone and text calls, assessing risk, triaging acuity and dispatching appropriate response. The role operates within a trauma‑informed, harm‑reduction and culturally safe framework.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the central call line, assess and triage incoming calls and texts, and develop safety and community care plans.
• Coordinate with internal AVI programs, schedule staff, and maintain confidential case files and community resource databases.
• Provide non‑judgmental emotional support, crisis intervention, and follow‑up until the CRCL team can attend.
• Escalate to emergency services (e.g., 911) when necessary and document all interactions.

Required profile

• Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to deliver services that are culturally safe and incorporate Indigenous knowledge.
• Strong emotional resilience and ability to remain calm in high‑stress, unpredictable crisis situations.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with callers, peers, family members and crisis response teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in crisis assessment, risk triage and development of safety plans.
• Knowledge of mental health, substance use resources and community services in the Comox Valley.
• Ability to use screening tools, document case information and manage multiple competing tasks efficiently.
