Disability Support Worker – ASL Intervenor (Relief)

About the role

The Scope Society of Alberta is looking for relief support workers to provide direct assistance to adults with developmental disabilities who are Deaf or Deaf‑blind and also experience mental‑health, social, emotional or behavioural challenges. Candidates should be comfortable working a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends and overnight.

Key responsibilities

• Promote individual goals and aspirations
• Support daily activities such as volunteering, paid employment and leisure interests
• Provide mental‑health and behavioural support
• Assist with health maintenance, including medical appointments, medication administration and emotional support
• Help with home maintenance tasks like meal preparation, cleaning and laundry
• Foster development and maintenance of meaningful relationships
• Encourage choice, rights and empowerment

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in Disability Studies, Social Work, Psychology or a related field
• 1–2 years experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities and a mental‑health diagnosis
• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) at level 101 or higher, or willingness to learn
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team with strong communication skills
• First Aid, CPR, CPI and medication administration training are assets
