Director, Media Relations

About the role

Air Canada is seeking a Director of Media Relations to serve as the official spokesperson and lead the development of media strategies that protect and enhance the airline’s brand. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communications, you will work at the intersection of corporate messaging, media engagement, and reputation management.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement proactive media relations strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Act as corporate spokesperson on key issues and provide media training to senior executives.
• Build and maintain relationships with local, national, and international media outlets.
• Draft, review, and approve press releases, speeches, and other communication materials for the CEO and senior leadership.
• Monitor emerging media issues, assess reputational impact, and advise executive management.
• Lead integrated communications efforts across marketing, investor relations, employee communications, and government relations during major events such as route announcements or labour disruptions.
• Participate in crisis communication planning and execution.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate communications and media relations, preferably within the aviation or transportation sector.
• Proven track record as a senior spokesperson and media strategist.
• Strong understanding of both traditional and social media landscapes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.
