Development Officer – Awards

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a Development Officer focused on Awards to lead and support fundraising initiatives. This role works closely with senior university leaders, faculty, donors, and community partners to advance major gift programs.

Key responsibilities

• Administer fundraising programs, including research, strategy development, proposal preparation, and stewardship.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors.
• Develop and manage a portfolio of 75‑125 major gift prospects, conducting 100‑125 face‑to‑face visits annually.
• Collaborate with senior management to maximize private and public sector support.
• Coordinate staffing and strategies for closing major gift solicitations.
• Prepare annual work‑plan goals and track fundraising metrics.
• Supervise Development Coordinators, Associates, and support staff as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in higher‑education fundraising or major‑gift development.
• Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, faculty, and external organizations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated capacity to meet annual fundraising targets of $0.75‑1.5 M.
