Design Engineer – Hydro Turbine Mechanical Design

About the role

Andritz Hydro Canada is seeking a senior Design Engineer to join its Mechanical Design Team for hydro turbines. Based in Boucherville, QC, you will lead the mechanical design of new and refurbished Francis, Kaplan, and propeller turbine units, ensuring they meet performance specifications while controlling costs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform analytical design calculations, including stress and strain analysis, and develop technical specifications.
• Produce engineering instructions for manufacturing and installation, and review/seal technical documentation.
• Collaborate with hydraulic and mechanical engineers, drafters, and project teams throughout the project cycle.
• Track engineering budgets and schedules, organize design reviews, and provide technical support during manufacturing and installation.
• Participate in the development of design tools, root‑cause problem solving, and preparation of technical bid documentation.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer registration with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in hydro‑electric turbine refurbishment/design or heavy mechanical structures.
• Strong customer orientation, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel for trips longer than a week within Canada and abroad.

Required skills

• CAD (computer‑aided design) systems.
• MS Office suite.
• Stress analysis and mechanical design calculations.
• Experience with welding, machining, or casting processes (asset).
