Design Engineer – Hydro Turbine

About the role

ANDRITZ Hydro Canada is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join its Mechanical Design Team for turbines. Based in Boucherville, QC, you will lead the mechanical design of new and refurbished Francis, Kaplan, and propeller turbine units, ensuring they meet performance specifications while controlling costs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for new and refurbished hydro‑turbine units.
• Collaborate with hydraulic and mechanical engineers, drafters, and project teams.
• Perform stress and strain calculations and produce technical specifications.
• Create engineering instructions for manufacturing and installation.
• Track engineering budgets and schedules, and update project teams.
• Organize and participate in design reviews; review and seal technical documentation.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and installation phases.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of design tools and practices.
• Assist in problem solving, root‑cause analysis, and preparation of bid documentation.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer registration with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in hydro‑electric turbine refurbishment/design or heavy mechanical structures.
• Strong communication skills in English and French (desired).
• Willingness to travel occasionally for periods exceeding one week.
• Customer‑oriented, teamwork‑focused, and solution‑driven attitude.

Required skills

• Advanced use of MS Office suite.
• Knowledge of hydro‑turbine types (Francis, Kaplan, propeller).
• Understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, and casting.
