Design Engineer – BIW Upper Body

About the role

The Design Engineer will lead the design, development and release of Body-in-White (BIW) upper body components and sub‑assemblies. The role combines advanced CAD modeling, supplier coordination and on‑site plant support to ensure manufacturability, cost targets and vehicle performance.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end design and release of BIW upper body parts using parametric modeling in NX.
• Collaborate with external suppliers, internal stamping plants and vehicle body shops to meet project milestones and functional objectives.
• Develop and manage component bills of material (CBOM) and quadris for sub‑assemblies.
• Create Source Package technical documentation and lead technical reviews with suppliers and internal teams.
• Define and track engineering validation plans (DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA) and coordinate physical testing.
• Provide on‑site plant launch support, troubleshoot assembly issues and drive corrective actions.
• Ensure designs comply with internal standards, vehicle performance targets and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate status, risks and deliverables to cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive sheet‑metal development.
• Strong knowledge of metal forming, joining techniques and GD&T.
• Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack‑up and automotive validation testing.
• Excellent problem‑solving, project management and communication skills.
