Deputy Fire Chief – Training, Fleet & Emergency Management

About the role

The Town of Caledon seeks a senior fire service leader to serve as Deputy Fire Chief overseeing Training, Fleet, and Emergency Management. Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, this role ensures operational readiness, strategic development of training programs, and effective management of fire apparatus and emergency coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver an annual training curriculum aligned with NFPA standards, Ontario Fire College requirements and other legislative guidelines.
• Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, updating programs to reflect new technologies and methods.
• Lead fire department personnel management, including performance evaluation, labour‑relations support and day‑to‑day administration.
• Coordinate with fleet and facility services to ensure all fire apparatus, equipment and training facilities are maintained and operational.
• Conduct lifecycle analysis of apparatus and equipment to support evidence‑based procurement and replacement decisions.
• Serve as the Town’s Alternate Community Emergency Management Coordinator, contributing to municipal emergency planning and response.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in fire service operations and leadership, preferably at senior or deputy chief level.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, Ontario Fire College curriculum and emergency management principles.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a complex municipal environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills, including labour‑relations experience.
