Dental Assistant

About the role

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the Dental Assistant supports staff and students in patient treatment and dental education. The role includes preparing instruments, ensuring infection control, scheduling appointments, and maintaining lab equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up dental instruments and materials for clinical and laboratory sessions.
• Perform laboratory tasks such as pouring and trimming models, mounting on articulators, and fabricating surgical guides, custom trays, orthodontic retainers, mouth guards, bleaching trays, and temporization shells.
• Take radiographs of extracted teeth and assist with oral surgery tasks involving animal parts.
• Maintain and clean the simulation lab and plaster room, and ensure equipment and supply availability.
• Guide students in practical requirements and compile reports.

Required profile

• Dental Assistant Certification (required).
• Minimum three years of related experience.
• High degree of manual dexterity and ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
• Fluency in English and French, spoken and written.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, stretch, bend and lift light loads.

Required skills

• Dental model pouring and trimming.
• Radiograph acquisition on extracted teeth.
• Fabrication of surgical stents, custom trays, orthodontic appliances, mouth guards, bleaching trays, and temporization shells.
• Use of dental putty and wax‑up techniques.
• Knowledge of dental laboratory procedures and materials (various stone types, alginate impressions).
