Data Scientist – Machine Learning Engineer for Digital Health Platform

About the role

The University of British Columbia’s Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Data Scientist to support the Intelligent Care Platform (ICP), a digital health technology that integrates clinical, wearable, and patient‑reported data. The role will focus on applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning methods to generate actionable insights for personalized diabetes care.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement machine‑learning models using Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch to analyze multimodal health data.
• Collaborate with clinicians, engineers, and researchers to translate model outputs into point‑of‑care decision tools.
• Evaluate the impact of ICP on patient experience, population health, cost reduction, clinician burnout, and health equity through a quasi‑experimental trial.
• Maintain and document code, data pipelines, and analytical workflows in a reproducible manner.
• Contribute to scientific publications and grant reports related to the project.

Required profile

• Graduate‑level training or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, statistics, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience with machine‑learning, statistical analysis, and data‑science projects.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.
