Damage Prevention and Safety Coordinator

About the role

Clearway is seeking a Damage Prevention and Safety Coordinator to lead its pre‑locate investigation program and ensure all underground utilities are accurately identified before any ground disturbance. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the role blends damage‑prevention oversight with safety‑coordination support across multiple Lower Mainland sites.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the pre‑locate investigation program, planning scope, timelines and required investigations.
• Supervise pre‑locate crews, coordinate BC One Call requests and liaise with utility owners.
• Review drawings, permits and locate tickets, validate field markings and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain the Utility Locate Binder as the single source of truth for all locate documentation.
• Conduct pre‑excavation meetings, communicate utility locations and risk zones, and document decisions.
• Review saw‑cut areas, integrate damage‑prevention controls into work plans and perform field checks.
• Promote a strong safety culture, deliver toolbox talks and training on excavation safety.
• Perform site safety inspections, support incident investigations and maintain compliance with WorkSafeBC and COR requirements.
• Deliver site orientations, maintain training records and support emergency response planning.

Required profile

• 3+ years experience in underground utility locating, damage prevention or civil/heavy construction.
• Working knowledge of BC damage‑prevention practices, BC One Call ticketing and utility owner locate processes.
• Familiarity with BC Occupational Health & Safety Regulation and WorkSafeBC requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, as‑builts and utility records.
• Experience conducting site safety inspections, hazard assessments and incident investigations.
• Strong documentation discipline for maintaining a comprehensive Utility Locate Binder.
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and ability to travel across the Lower Mainland.
