Course Lecturer – Mohawk Language 1 (EDEC 277‑760)

About the role

The University seeks a Course Lecturer to teach Mohawk Language 1 (EDEC 277‑760) during the Fall 2026 term. The position involves delivering in‑person classes in Kahnawà:ke and collaborating with the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver three weekly lectures (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 6:00 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.) covering phonology, morphology, and syntax of Mohawk.
• Adapt course content to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community and update materials to reflect current advances.
• Participate in course coordination and planning activities two weeks prior to the start date, primarily online.
• Develop curriculum and instructional approaches grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent research/professional experience) related to Indigenous languages or education.
• Expert knowledge of Mohawk language content as described in the course outline.
• Familiarity with the Quebec Education Program, the 13 professional competencies of the Ministère de l’Éducation, and the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities.
• Experience teaching in Quebec elementary schools, pre‑service teacher programs, or Indigenous community settings.
