Counsel, Property & Casualty Litigation

About the role

The Counsel, Property & Casualty (P&C) Litigation will manage day‑to‑day handling of lower to moderate complexity bodily injury and property claims for The Co‑operators group and its insured clients. The role also provides legal advice, training and guidance to agents, clients and internal staff.

Key responsibilities

• Handle all aspects of claims litigation from referral to resolution, including assessments, legal research, and participation in examinations for discovery, mediations, motions, appeals, pre‑trials and trials.
• Collaborate with claims colleagues to achieve successful outcomes and travel as needed for litigation matters.
• Assess situations, determine need for experts, and flag issues requiring senior legal involvement.
• Provide general legal advice across a broad range of business topics, focusing on core legal expertise.
• Deliver training and support to claims personnel and assist senior counsel on complex litigation.
• Recommend process improvements to reduce financial and legal exposure.
