Corporate Controller

About the role

The Corporate Controller will act as the lead finance business partner for the Canada CFO & Treasurer, overseeing local finance, regulatory reporting, tax and treasury functions. This senior position requires managing the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in line with IFRS and CIRO regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead accounting and financial reporting for monthly and annual statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS and CIRO rules.
• Perform detailed financial statement reviews, tie‑outs, and provide variance analysis against budget.
• Serve as primary liaison for internal and external audit processes, preparing working papers and documentation.
• Review and prepare Canada direct and indirect tax provisions in collaboration with external consultants.
• Support corporate finance, treasury, and tax matters, coordinating with Jefferies Accounting Policy Group and other product control teams.
• Recommend improvements to operational effectiveness, financial reporting, taxation, and internal controls.
• Ensure robust internal controls for finance, tax, and treasury functions.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation or equivalent qualification.
• 8‑10+ years of experience in accounting/finance within broker‑dealer, banking, or financial services environments.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, capable of interacting with senior management.
• Proven senior‑level management and leadership experience.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of broker‑dealer, banking, and tax regulations (e.g., CIRO, OSC, CRA).
• In‑depth understanding of financial and non‑financial risk management for financial institutions.
