Cook – Long-Term Care & Community Meal Services

About the role

The County of Lambton is seeking a skilled Cook to prepare balanced, nutritious meals for residents, outreach programs, and Meals on Wheels services. Working in a fast‑paced kitchen environment, you will ensure food quality, safety, and consistency across multiple service locations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare large‑quantity meals according to production schedules, dietary requirements, and Ministry guidelines.
• Slice, chop, mix, puree, and cook meats, vegetables, soups, sandwiches, salads, and desserts using a full range of cooking methods.
• Assemble and distribute hot and cold food to apartments, outreach programs, day‑care, Meals on Wheels, and occasional special luncheons.
• Maintain inventory control, portion control, and menu consistency.
• Train and guide other staff performing similar food‑preparation tasks.

Required profile

• Physical ability to handle the demands of a commercial kitchen, including lifting, standing for long periods, and operating equipment.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant legislation, collective agreements, and County policies.
• Commitment to food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance standards.

Required skills

• Food preparation techniques (slicing, chopping, pureeing, baking, grilling, steaming).
• Menu planning and dietary accommodation.
• Inventory and portion control.
• Sanitation and equipment cleaning procedures.
