Controls Engineer – Standardized Product Development

About the role

Join Armstrong Fluid Technology as a Controls Engineer and help define the next‑generation hardware and software topology for our optimization product line. You will work with the control team to create standardized, repeatable solutions that improve performance, reduce costs, and support a unified Soft PLC platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design control system hardware and software as configurable, standard products, establishing reusable architectures and code libraries.
• Maintain standard Bills of Materials, controlled drawings, and documented functionality for all control system offerings.
• Lead migration of legacy applications to the unified Soft PLC platform, including HMI redesign using standard templates.
• Coordinate engineering change management (ECR/ECN/ECO) to keep BOMs, drawings, and software baselines aligned.
• Implement advanced control features, define test procedures, and validate performance across all units.
• Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, or related field.
• 5‑7 years of experience in control systems engineering or industrial automation, with a focus on standardized product development.
• Proven experience with PLC/Soft PLC platforms, industrial communication protocols, and formal product development lifecycles.
• Hands‑on experience in engineering change management, BOM and drawing release, and configuration control.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text).
• HMI design and development.
• Soft PLC platforms and control logic design.
• Industrial communication protocols: Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Bacnet.
• Network troubleshooting and configuration.
• Design for Manufacturability, Design for Serviceability, DFMEA.
• Experience with Carel PLC, JACE PLC, and HVAC industry applications.
• Knowledge of PID control algorithms.
