Controller – Finance Operations

About the role

St. Helen's Meat Packers Limited is seeking a full‑time Controller to lead its finance function in Toronto. The role will manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, produce insightful financial reports, and partner with operations to drive business performance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processing.
• Manage monthly, quarterly and annual close processes and prepare accurate financial statements.
• Develop cash‑flow forecasts, variance analyses and management reporting packages.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles, monitor cost controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.
• Coordinate external audit activities and continuously improve internal controls and financial systems.
• Mentor and develop the finance team while collaborating with senior leadership on strategic initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong financial accounting and reporting experience, including GL and month‑end close.
• Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and cost control within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
• Knowledge of internal controls, audit processes and relevant tax regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA designation strongly preferred.
• People‑management experience with a track record of building effective finance teams.
• Ability to work on‑site in Toronto with a collaborative, ethical and continuous‑improvement mindset.
