Contact Engineer

About the role

Suncor is seeking a Contact Engineer for its Fort Hills site to support plant performance, troubleshoot process issues, and drive operational optimization. The role involves working closely with operations teams to ensure reliable and efficient production in a heavy‑oil environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support expense projects and process changes while monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Ensure operational targets are met, communicate corrective actions, and follow up on implementation.
• Conduct technical investigations and root‑cause analyses, providing feedback and recommendations.
• Collaborate on risk assessments and participate in HAZOP studies.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience as a Chemical/Process Engineer supporting an operating plant in heavy oil or refining.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer with APEGA.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record.

Required skills

• Familiarity with P&ID and process flow diagrams.
• Experience facilitating risk assessments and HAZOP studies.
• Knowledge of fluid hydraulic calculations.
• Proficiency with HYSYS and computer‑based hydraulic simulation packages.
• Experience with Paraffinic Froth Treatment (asset).
